Assistant, Associate or Senior Research Specialist

The Organization

As an independent research organization, the Morgridge Institute for Research explores uncharted scientific territory to discover tomorrow’s cures. In affiliation with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we support researchers who take a fearless approach to advancing human health in emerging fields such as regenerative biology, metabolism, virology and biomedical imaging. Through public programming, we work to inspire scientific curiosity in everyday life.

The Opportunity:

The Ahlquist laboratory at the Morgridge Institute for Research and University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking one or more highly motivated research specialists to expand our studies of the molecular mechanisms of genome replication and host interactions in positive-strand RNA viruses, which include coronaviruses and many other important pathogens. Projects include multiple aspects of the structure, assembly and function of viral RNA replication complexes, which are fascinating molecular machines and major targets for virus control (e.g., Unchwaniwala and Ahlquist [2020] Science; Nishikiori and Ahlquist [2021] Current Opinion in Virology). These studies integrate molecular genetics, biochemistry and cutting-edge cryo-electron microscopy, and provide excellent opportunities to expand skills.

The successful candidate(s) will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team with diverse backgrounds and expertise in a well-equipped, interactive research environment on the campus of the UW-Madison. We offer an extraordinary work environment built around a multi-disciplinary fusion of ideas, state-of-the-art facilities, and commitment to mentorship. UW-Madison consistently ranks among the top U.S. universities for research and development and the City of Madison among the ‘best places to live in the US’ with a diversity of outdoor and cultural opportunities.
